Alaska Vocational Technical Center


Welcome to the Certified Nurse Assistant Reciprocity Course. This training is offered in the Anchorage area.

Purpose
To offer to Certified Nurse Assistants from other states, new to the State of Alaska, the opportunity to become a Certified Nurse Assistant in our state.

Cost - $150 per week, plus materials and supplies,
$75 BLS/CPR (if not current)

 

Process
Screening will be done by State of Alaska, Division of Occupational Licensing to verify training and certification in another state. A letter will be sent to AVTEC (Alaska Vocational Technical Center) stating the status of the person and what is needed to be eligible for certification in Alaska.

 
The person will contact AVTEC regarding the enrollment process for AVTEC and information about the class will be sent with class dates, prerequisites, and costs. The following are a list of requirements before a person will be accepted:

  • Letter from Alaska Occupational Licensing
  • Criminal background check
  • TB screening within the past 6 months
  • Proof of immunity for MMR, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B
  • Application to AVTEC
  • Paid tuition, supplies, uniform, fees
  • Current BLS/CPR 

After acceptance into the program, a written and random skills test will be given, to determine the areas that need instruction. This will be done for the student’s benefit and a textbook and workbook will be offered to the student. If classroom instruction is indicated, it will be individualized to the student’s needs and recommendations will be given to the student in preparation for the Certification Exam. Clinical instruction will be given with feedback for the student on areas that need strengthening.

After completing the required hours, the “Verification of Training For Alaska Nurse Aide Registry” will be completed and submitted directly to the Division of Occupational Licensing, Nurse Aide Registry. All applications and costs for the Alaska State Certification will be handled between the student and the Division of Occupational Licensing.
